Magical pacts Nashwa (servant)

Gina Evelyn is a university student and aspiring writer. She is a supporting character in The Staunch Hawthorn and Mary’s Eternal Companion, as well as the protagonist of Writing Her Own Story.

The Staunch Hawthorn

On the first day of school she met Jane O’Young and Ainsley Wintertide, and they quickly became friends. Then later that week, she found a ring at a garage sale. Then after she bought it, and after her shift at the local supermarket ended, she realized that she left her belongings at work. She loudly wished to be home, and the djinn Nashwa who lived in the ring possessed her and answered her wish.

When Gina saw Jane the next day, she was shocked that she was able to see her companion Aislinn. However, she found herself unable to mention this. Ainsley used this chance to explain that she’s a magician, and they all learned about Nashwa and how she gagged Gina to prevent her from mentioning the existence of magic. Now knowing about this, the girls decided to keep this secret.

Over winter break, Gina wished to see her friends. The next thing she knew, she, Jane, and Aislinn were all teleported on top of Ainsley right as she was headed to Oak Shade Station. After Alba sorted out the resulting chaos, the group, with Nashwa handling logistics, decided to accompany her to New Salem.

Gina met Edmund Sunscatter and his family, and they toured the city. Then they were attacked, and although Gina borrowed Nashwa’s power to defend themselves, Ainsley ended up being kidnapped. The police arrived, and the group were then interrogated by Ciarán Thunderheart. After picking up on some clues, Gina and Nashwa began to view him with distrust.

Edmund received a ransom note asking him to meet at his workplace where he managed the barrier protecting the city. He asked Aislinn and Nashwa to accompany him, as they were able to defend themselves during an ambush and could help shift the hostage negotiation in their favor. At the barrier security room they all met Ciarán and learned of his plan to destroy the city, and the situation turned sour when he threatened to kill Ainsley. A fight broke out and in the end Ciarán was defeated and Ainsley was freed, but the barrier ended up getting destroyed. Nashwa desperately held the barrier together until Jane, Aislinn, and Ainsley fixed it. Although they saved the city, Aislinn was unable to return to Earth with them, leaving Jane depressed.

Some time later, Gina and Ainsley visited Jane to cheer her up. Then they noticed the cut down tree in her backyard regrowing, and Aislinn appeared to reunite with Jane.

Mary’s Eternal Companion

Gina was introduced to Ainsley’s old friend Mary Demore and was explained her succubus heritage and dehabilitating hunger pangs and aversion to feeding. Eager to help, Gina made a wish to cure Mary, but Nashwa twisted the wish to instead temporarily transfer her succubus nature to Gina instead. Experiencing the effects of hunger herself, Gina succumbed and kissed Jane, unconsciously cursing her to see Gina in her dreams until she admitted her feelings. Nashwa secretly copied the effects and applied them to Gina as well.

As the curse took effect, Gina became more conscious of Jane and started to avoid her. Ainsley and Mary noticed and asked her what was wrong, but she refused to say anything. However, Nashwa explained the situation, giving them a good idea on what to do next.

Ainsley invited everyone to her apartment where Mary explained how to remove the succubus curse. With Nashwa’s help, Jane and Gina admitted their feelings for each other, removing the curse.

Writing Her Own Story

On a whim, Gina applied to a prestigious university knowing that even if she were to be accepted, she still wouldn’t be able to pay the tuition. To her surprise, not only did she receive an acceptance letter, but accompanying it was an invite to meet Gertrude Rosenfeld. After learning that Jane was also accepted to the same university and received the same letter, they both decided to meet her.

Gertrude asked for their supernatural help in resolving an issue, in return for fully paying their tuition. While Jane declined, Gina needed the money so she accepted. Gertrude introduced her to a murder case where the victims were drained of blood, bringing in Sally who would assist her. Gina wished to alert Gertrude whenever a murder occurred, leading Nashwa to create an orb that projected the location of murders in the city. At Gertrude’s behest, Gina, Jane, and Sally were located in a luxurious penthouse near campus. Gina and Sally quickly established their modus operandi.

On orientation day, Gina passed by a magnificent estate, registered for classes, and met her fellow classmates, including Terrence McHone. She met him again on the first day of class, where he invited her to the library to work together on an assignment. A few other classmates agreed to join in.

After class, Gina met Jane in a crowded cafeteria. Hearing Gina’s wish to eat alone with Jane, Nashwa caused everyone to vacate the building. They enjoyed their lunch together, but then Sally, disguised as Char Fairfield, notified Gina of an incident in a nearby restaurant. They examined the scene to find the area in disarray and the staff drained of blood.

Later, Gina met Terrence and her classmates in the library. As they settled in, they heard strange noises, prompting one of them to start telling ghost stories. Everyone took turns, and as Terrence told his story, Gina learned his parents died together in an accident. On her way home that day, she noticed the estate glowing red.

Some time afterward, Gina and Char happened upon demons attacking a faculty member and a strange figure extracting blood with an artifact. They engaged in battle, but due to Gina’s inexperience the enemies escaped. Frustated and desperate for clues, Gina asked her patrons where they would hold a ritual if they were an evil magician. Seeing graveyard as one of the answers, she founnd a mausoleum nearby and dragged Char with her to visit. They unexpectedly found an artifact there, and with Nashwa’s guidance they found another one in a bunker hidden beneath the university library.

One day, Terrence invited Gina to attend a Halloween frat party. Excited, Gina convinced Jane and Char to dress up and accompany her. She enjoyed some activities before Terrence approached her and asked her out. She rejected him, saying she already had a girlfriend. Noticing Jane in the middle of transforming, she escorted her out, getting Char to use an invisibility barrier to hide them.

After returning to the penthouse, they were ambushed by demons. Distraught by the turn of events, Jane told Gina how her activities made her feel uncomfortable. Gina consoled her, then made a wish to let her know whenever she was in trouble. Nashwa created a pair of pendants that pointed in each others’ direction whenever the wearer was in trouble. Hearing about the incident, Gertrude arranged to have Gina move to Ylatt Tower, fortify the penthouse with enchantments, and protect Jane with bodyguards.

With a city-wide curfew in place, Gina started training with Sally. Wishing for a way to defend herself, Gina was granted the ability to use magic by Nashwa. She later learned about the police being attacked, but was advised not to interfere to avoid breaking the secrecy rule.

When Gina went to class later, she found Terrence treating her coldly for some unknown reason. Then she went to the library to do research for a new assignment, which led to her connecting some clues and associating Terrence with the murders and the estate. With this information, she got Char’s help to disguise as a policewoman and successfully baited the attacker. At the end of the fight, the ley lines unexpectedly diverged, revealing Ylatt Tower to the rest of the city. Gina hastily wished to hide the tower, and Nashwa struggled to restore the ley lines.

Gina recalled the artifacts and led Char to the mausoleum where they encountered a huge demon protecting it. With her name now in the clear, Gertrude joined them in combat, and eventually they fought back the demon and destroyed the artifacts in the mausoleum and the underground bunker.

Although the artifacts were destroyed, the ley lines were still being tampered with, the group didn’t know where any other artifacts were, and Nashwa was too busy restoring the ley lines to grant wishes. Gina used her phone’s map to find the locations of the artifacts and deduced that if they formed an equilateral triangle around the tower, the last location would be at the estate. They entered and found the demon and Terrence, who explained how he used the demon to murder those who he felt had wronged him. However, the demon unexpectedly drained him of his blood, powering him up and leading to a final battle. At the end, the demon cursed Gertrude, causing her to go crazy and attack Gina and Char. Just as they were about to meet their end, Jane and Aislinn entered, spreading sleep and paralysis powder to neutralize the vampire.

Personality and traits

Gina is a skilled writer, which has earned her a large following on her social media accounts. She loves to tell jokes and talk about her plans, her dreams, and misfortunes.

Gina also likes learning about new things and is usually the first to try new products and online services. This is a double-edged sword: while this is generally a positive experience, it also distracts her from what she wants to do.
