Gina Evelyn and her girlfriend Jane O’Young get accepted into a prestigious university. However, accompanying their acceptance letters are invitations from Gertrude Rosenfeld, who offers them full ride scholarships in exchange for their supernatural assistance to investigate murders where victims are drained of their blood. While Jane declines, Gina needs the tuition money so she agrees. Gina is assigned to a penthouse suite with Jane and Sally, who will be working with her on the case. Excited for her new university life, she meets and befriends many people, including the charming student Terrence McHone.
Then murders start happening. As they investigate each incident, minimal clues and Gina’s lack of expertise cause them frustration. With the indirect help of her fans of her writing, Gina manages to find a lead. However, the murderer targets her, and Gertrude arranges to protect Jane and move Gina to Ylatt Tower for their safety. After training with Sally, Gina hatches a successful plan to bait the attacker.
Just as Gina is able to piece together the clues, the ley lines are disrupted, exposing Ylatt Tower. To protect the magicians inside from being exposed, she uses Nashwa to repair the ley lines while she hunts down the attacker. In the end, they face off against the culprit.
The prequel to this story is Mary’s Eternal Companion. Its sequel is Northampton Blue Sea.
