Idonea Culpepper is the famed mad alchemist of Ylatt Tower who created the (flawed) elixir of life. Thanks to funding from Gertrude Rosenfeld, she is able to create potions for nearly any purpose. However, her experiments often result in injuries and unexpected side effects.
Idonea was visited by Ainsley Wintertide and Mary Demore. Happy to greet visitors, she listened to their story and eagerly agreed to develop a potion to drastically reduce a succubus’s consumption of life force. However, in the middle of their conversation her age regressed, leading her to explain the effects of her previously developed elixir of life. Ainsley was surprised, as she heard about Idonea but thought her feats were simply tall tales. Idonea gave the girls a list of ingredients and asked them to return once they have obtained them.
On their second visit, Ainsley and Mary helped Idonea prepare the potion. After much effort, they produced a potion that appeared to work, but had the side effect of forcing Meridiana to control Mary’s body. Now fully understanding the situation, Idonea prepared a second potion which returned control to Mary and properly reduced her life force consumption.
Idonea greeted Jane O’Young and Gina Evelyn at the tower when Gertrude asked for their help. Seeing the live map of the city created with Nashwa’s magic fascinated her so much that she copied and applied it to Sally’s watch so that it could function like a walkie-talkie.
When the tower suddenly became visible to the public, she was the first to theorize that something was interfering with the protective magic of the ley lines and confirmed that their positions had indeed moved. With that information, Gina’s investigation team was able to destroy the artifacts causing the interference, stabilizing the ley lines.
With the help of Sally’s parents, she was able to remove the demon’s curse from Gertrude, allowing her to regain her senses.
When it comes to alchemy, Idonea is undoubtedly a genius, but she tends to play fast and loose with ethics. This results in her experiments having unexpected consequences.
Gertrude often has to remind her not to be distracted by her own whims and instead focus on the assignments she gave her. To that end, she drinks copious amounts of coffee to work on her experiments for hours at a time. Despite her workload, she still smiles because she always finds the things she does interesting.
While she has messy hair, stains on her clothing, and bags under her eyes, she cares less about her appearance and more about alchemy “for the sake of magic” as she likes to put it.
