| Magical pacts | Gina Evelyn (master) |
Nashwa is a djinn who grants her master’s wishes. She is a supporting character in The Staunch Hawthorn, Mary’s Eternal Companion, and Writing Her Own Story.
The Staunch Hawthorn
When Nashwa’s previous master died, her ring was sold at a garage sale to Gina Evelyn. She granted her wish to return home then magically gagged her to prevent her from revealing the existence of magic to others.
The next day, Gina saw her friends Jane O’Young and Ainsley Wintertide, and was shocked that she was able to see Aislinn as well. However, due to the gag she found herself unable to mention this. Ainsley used this chance to explain that she’s a magician, and they all learned about Nashwa. Now knowing about magic, the girls decided to keep this secret.
Over winter break, Gina wished to see her friends. Nashwa then teleported her, Jane, and Aislinn on top of Ainsley right as she was headed to Oak Shade Station. After Alba sorted out the resulting chaos, the group, with Nashwa handling logistics, decided to accompany her to New Salem.
Gina met Edmund Sunscatter and his family, and they toured the city. Then they were attacked, and although Gina borrowed Nashwa’s power to defend themselves, Ainsley ended up being kidnapped. The police arrived, and the group were then interrogated by Ciarán Thunderheart. After picking up on some clues, Gina and Nashwa began to view him with distrust.
Edmund received a ransom note asking him to meet at his workplace where he managed the barrier protecting the city. He asked Aislinn and Nashwa to accompany him, as they were able to defend themselves during an ambush and could help shift the hostage negotiation in their favor. At the barrier security room they all met Ciarán and learned of his plan to destroy the city, and the situation turned sour when he threatened to kill Ainsley. A fight broke out and in the end Ciarán was defeated and Ainsley was freed, but the barrier ended up getting destroyed. Nashwa desperately held the barrier together until Jane, Aislinn, and Ainsley fixed it. Although they saved the city, Aislinn was unable to return to Earth with them, leaving Jane depressed.
Some time later, Gina and Ainsley visited Jane to cheer her up. Then they noticed the cut down tree in her backyard regrowing, and Aislinn appeared to reunite with Jane.
Mary’s Eternal Companion
Nashwa was introduced to Ainsley’s old friend Mary Demore and was explained her succubus heritage and dehabilitating hunger pangs and aversion to feeding. Eager to help, Gina made a wish to cure Mary, but Nashwa twisted the wish to instead temporarily transfer her succubus nature to Gina instead. Experiencing the effects of hunger herself, Gina succumbed and kissed Jane, unconsciously cursing her to see Gina in her dreams until she admitted her feelings. Nashwa secretly copied the effects and applied them to Gina as well.
As the curse took effect, Gina became more conscious of Jane and started to avoid her. Ainsley and Mary noticed and asked her what was wrong, but she refused to say anything. However, Nashwa explained the situation, giving them a good idea on what to do next.
Ainsley invited everyone to her apartment where Mary explained how to remove the succubus curse. With Nashwa’s help, Jane and Gina admitted their feelings for each other, removing the curse.
Writing Her Own Story
Contrary to her previous roles, Nashwa did not twist as many wishes in this story.
- During Gina’s meeting with Gertrude Rosenfeld, she created an orb that projected the location of murders in the city.
- Nashwa granted Gina’s wish for her to eat lunch alone with Jane in a crowded cafeteria.
- She guided Gina and Char Fairfield in finding key artifacts in a mausoleum and an underground bunker.
- She created a pair of pendants that pointed in each others’ direction whenever the wearer was in trouble.
- In a rare event, Nashwa granted Gina the ability to use magic.
- She held the ley lines together in place, preventing Ylatt Tower from being visible to the public while Gina, Char, and Gertrude hunted down the perpetrators that caused them to go haywire.

In this story, Gina had few opportunities to make wishes, so Nashwa’s role was limited.
- She transformed Gina during battles.
- She granted Gina the power to repair the barrier (but it was not enough, so Gina needed to borrow the power of Kaia’s hairclip.)
Personality and traits
Having lived a long life, Nashwa doesn’t like to be bored. She enjoys listening to a good story or music and eating delicious cuisine. But when she can’t find anything to satisfy her, she turns to manipulating Gina’s wishes or dressing her up in clothes that she likes.
Djinn tend to be humble, but Nashwa is proud and doesn’t like to serve humans she believes are beneath her. She finds it absurd that despite her overwhelming magical abilities, she is at the beck and call of her master.
Magical abilities and skills
As a djinn, Nashwa possesses an incredible amount of magical power.
- Fire Magic: Nashwa has a natural affinity to fire, which makes her fire-based spells extra potent.
- Mana Detection: Nashwa can sense when magic is being used, the strength of the spell being cast, and even the exact spell being used.
- Possession: Nashwa is able to possess Gina’s body to grant wishes or cast spells more powerful than she can when not manifested from her ring.
- Wish Granting: This skill is unique to djinn. Enormous amounts of mana are required in order to alter reality.
Possessions
- Nashwa’s ring: Nashwa lives in this ring, bound to serve whomever wears it. She is able to invite guests inside to entertain them.
