Aislinn is a fairy who used to live in a hawthorn tree in Jane’s house before it was cut down. She is one of the main characters of The Staunch Hawthorn.
Living in a hawthorn tree, Aislinn woke up one day to find it being cut down. To save her own life, Aislinn bonded with Jane O’Young who was nearby, then later blamed her for destroying her home. Aislinn then demanded that Jane help her find a new home. Due to the bond, she started to follow Jane everywhere and eventually met Gina Evelyn, Nashwa, and Ainsley Wintertide.
During winter break, Jane, Aislinn, and Gina were suddenly teleported on top of Ainsley. After Alba sorted out the resulting chaos, the group, with Nashwa handling logistics, decided to accompany Ainsley to New Salem.
Aislinn met Edmund Sunscatter and his family, and they toured the city. Then they were attacked, and although Jane borrowed Aislinn’s power to defend themselves, Ainsley ended up being kidnapped. The police arrived, and the group were then interrogated by Ciarán Thunderheart. After picking up on some clues, Jane and Aislinn began to view him with distrust.
Edmund received a ransom note asking him to meet at his workplace where he managed the barrier protecting the city. He asked Aislinn and Nashwa to accompany him, as they were able to defend themselves during an ambush and could help shift the hostage negotiation in their favor. At the barrier security room they all met Ciarán and learned of his plan to destroy the city, and the situation turned sour when he threatened to kill Ainsley. A fight broke out and in the end Ciarán was defeated and Ainsley was freed, but the barrier ended up getting destroyed. The city’s gravity and air pressure destabilized, and Ainsley saved Jane just as she was about to be sucked out of the city.
While Nashwa was trying to hold the barrier together, Jane, Aislinn, and Ainsley tried to fix it. Aislinn planted her remaining hawthorn seed in the mana transfer point and it quickly grew into a tree that generated its own barrier. The city was saved, but Aislinn remained in the tree to handle its uncontrollable growth. By the time the situation calmed down, she noticed that Jane and her friends already returned home.
Despite getting the new home she wished for, Aislinn found that managing such a large tree as a new guardian was tedious and longed for more fun and carefree adventures with Jane. She decided to split her body into two: the first body managed the tree and the second body returned to Earth to reunite with Jane.
Aislinn was introduced to Ainsley’s old friend Mary Demore and was explained her succubus heritage and dehabilitating hunger pangs and aversion to feeding. Eager to help, Gina made a wish to cure Mary, but Nashwa twisted the wish to instead temporarily transfer her succubus nature to Gina instead. Experiencing the effects of hunger herself, Gina succumbed and kissed Jane, unconsciously cursing her to see Gina in her dreams until she admitted her feelings. Nashwa secretly copied the effects and applied them to Gina as well.
As the curse took effect, Jane became more conscious of Gina and started to avoid her. Due to her distress over her dreams, her mana recovery suffered, causing Aislinn to worry. Unable to get information from the embarrassed Jane, Aislinn asked Ainsley and Mary for help.
Ainsley invited everyone to her apartment where Mary explained how to remove the succubus curse. With Nashwa’s help, Jane and Gina admitted their feelings for each other, removing the curse.
Aislinn went with Jane and Gina to visit Gertrude Rosenfeld, immediately expressing her dislike of the vampire. She convinced Jane not to accept Gertrude’s offer for her assistance. Regardless, the vampire guardian arranged for Jane, Aislinn, and Gina to be situated in a luxurious penthouse to make it easier to maintain the secrecy rule. When touring the penthouse, she learned that a new person would join them: Sally, who had the ability to transform into her other identity Char Fairfield.
As Jane’s university life got under way, Aislinn had the opportunity to attend a frat party. Excited about the new experience, she immediately went into the kitchen only to be disappointed at the selection of drinks and snacks. Drinking some of the booze, she returned to Jane drunk and entered her body, unconsciously causing her to transform. Jane got Gina’s and Char’s help to hide while she finished her transformation.
At the end of Gina’s investigation, Aislinn assisted Jane in saving Gina’s life, silently spreading sleep and paralysis powder to neutralize a crazed Gertrude.
Aislinn is a carefree individual. She loves to talk and play games, and when things don’t go her way she sometimes throws tantrums. Aislinn loves baked goods, apples, and milk, and favors those who offer her these sweets.
While she tends to act childish, she knows when to be serious. The most important example is her motivation to plant a new tree to live in, because if she doesn’t then she will vanish. She is also patient and recognizes that she has the majority of Jane’s lifespan to accomplish this task.
While she is used to caring for trees, Aislinn is still learning how to take care of Jane. Since Jane’s physical and mental state affect Aislinn’s ability to use magic and recover mana, Aislinn tries to make sure Jane is well and healthy.
As a fairy, Aislinn values those who protect nature, holding people like Alba in high regard. On the other hand, she has an intense hatred for the undead like Gertrude, who she believes are unnaturally alive and should not exist.
Aislinn’s magical capabilities are related to trees and nature.
