Alba is a dryad and the guardian of Oak Shade who manages a restaurant where she is able to meet travelers between Earth and New Salem. With her deep connections, she maintains an information network to protect the secret of New Salem.
Long ago when magicians migrated to New Salem, Alba sheltered them from witch-hunts and vowed to keep them safe. Since then, visitors arrived from New Salem and gave her gifts as thanks. In rare instances, New Salem provides humanitarian aid to the area. When this happens, soldiers pass into her area and stay there.
On one occasion, Graham Wintertide was deployed to her area, and he brought his family along. Alba greeted them and found them all to be trustworthy.
Long ago, Alba sheltered magicians from witch-hunts and vowed to keep them safe. Through her information network, she learned of a terrorist plot to destroy New Salem’s barrier. She also learned that the terrorists are coordinating with the police.
By chance, she met Jane O’Young, Aislinn, Gina Evelyn, and Nashwa. She was able to convince Nashwa to investigate the plot. After it was resolved, she helps Aislinn restabilize the barrier.
Alba was introduced to Mary Demore when Ainsley brought her to the Oak Shade Archives. Aware that she could potentially harm the inhabitants of Oak Shade, she interrogated Mary to make sure she was trustworthy. Eventually she allowed her in, but not without supervision as she ordered some fairies to keep watch on her.
Although she was strict about Mary’s entry, she was still compassionate to her plight, arranging a meeting to get Idonea Culpepper’s help.
Alba is a calm, patient, and gentle person. She is a great listener with an amazing memory. Thoughout her life she has accumulated many stories to tell. She entertains guests to her restaurant with her stories and cooking.
Alba is also able to accurately judge whether a person is trustworthy. It is her use of this skill that helps her guard the secrets of magic from non-magicians. In her list of trusted people is Jane and Gina.
