Edmund Sunscatter is a magician who maintains the barrier over New Salem. He works in his laboratory to analyze and maintain the health of the barrier.
Whenever his niece Ainsley Wintertide was in New Salem, she came over to Edmund’s to see him and his family. As Ainsley visited him throughout the story, he got a sense of how her personality changed from extroverted to introverted.
During one of Ainsley’s visits, she brings her friends, and he happily lets them stay at his place. When he learned that Ainsley was kidnapped while sightseeing, he became angry. Shortly afterward he received a ransom asking for access to the barrier security room. Thinking it was a trap, he asked Aislinn and Nashwa to accompany him just in case.
After the barrier over New Salem was destroyed and restored, he worked around the clock to rebuild the city.
Edmund is a fit and intelligent leader. He is well loved by his staff, and he knowledgable about various aspects of magic.
He is a father to a son and a daughter, and takes care of Ainsley when her parents are too busy. During Ainsley’s school breaks he invites her to stay at his house. When she is kidnapped, he is quick to assemble forces to rescue her.
While Edmund is not a strong duelist, his skills are best suited for analyzing and understanding magic.
