Terrence McHone is a magician. He is one of the antagonists of Writing Her Own Story.
When Terrence’s grandfather and parents died in a strange accident, they left him his grandfather’s mansion in his will. In it, Terrence found a secret room with his old research, magic books, and the occult. Through those materials he learned how to use magic, albeit elementary, to get back at those who have wronged him.
Growing emboldened, he managed to summon a demon to gain even greater power. The demon promised him more strength, but asked him to install three artifacts in specific locations: the mausoleum, beneath the library in the local university campus, and in his mansion. With those tasks completed, the demon granted Terrence a tool to drain blood and the use of minions, and his use of magic gradually turned violent, causing a string of murders in his city. The demon helped covered his tracks, and even helped manipulate people to enroll him in Rucktour University to continue his education.
During orientation, he met Gina Evelyn and developed a crush on her. Later in the first day of school, he was surprised to learn that she was in one of his classes. He invited her to research together for their first assignment. Gina accepted, then extended the invitation to her classmates. Terrence was a bit disappointed because he wanted to talk to Gina alone, but thought having more people might be a good idea. They planned to meet at a certain date.
After class, Terrence ordered food at a restaurant. Then a rush of people enter the restaurant. It became apparent that this is unusual. The student overheard people saying that the cafeteria was temporarily closed, so they found other restaurants like this place instead. Due to the unexpected demand, the restaurant staff rushed to make food and serve everyone. The staff inadvertently skipped Terrence’s order. In addition, some other orders were mixed up. He and many people got mad and shouted at the staff. They apologized and prepared to fix the orders. Still unsatisfied, Terrence left the restaurant and used his magic to murder the staff.
A few days passed. Terrence met Gina and his classmates at the library to do research for their assignment. They entered and wandered around, looking for a good place to sit. They eventually found a good table in the corner on the bottom floor. As they started talking about how to approach their assignment, they heard weird noises. At first they ignored them, but they grew louder and more unsettling. Some of the students were feeling a little scared and suggested moving to a different table. One of the classmates suggested telling ghost stories. This suggestion was surprisingly agreed upon, and everyone enthusiastically took turns telling their own stories. When it came to Terrence’s turn, he mentioned his parents dying in an accident. He did’t go into much detail, but said that this was the truth.
Some time later, Terrence and Gina received the results of their papers. While Gina received a good grade, he didn’t. He asked how she did, and she says she was satisfied with her result, which made him feel more depressed.
Terrence attended the teacher’s assistant’s office hours. He met with the TA and they talked about his paper and how it can be improved. Terrence argued that his paper should have a higher grade because he did all the research and made good points. However, the TA wa firm on his decision and maintained that Terrence’s paper had been graded accurately. Terrence angrily left the office, then disguised himself and prepared to use the tool that the demon gave him. When the TA left his office, he summoned demons and attacked. Although, Gina and Char Fairfield intervened, he was able to drain the TA’s blood.
Later in class, his professor gave the sad news of the TA’s death and the ongoing investigation into the incident. Afterward, Terrence tried to clear the mood and asked Gina how her weekend went and learned about her writing and her Patreon account. He then invited her to go to a Halloween frat party. When she accepted, he was happy and planned to spend more time with her.
On the day of the party, he found and started flirting with her. At first Gina didn’t mind, but as the flirting increased, she started to feel uncomfortable. When Jane O’Young tried to get Gina to leave, she took the opportunity and explained that because she wasn’t feeling well, she needed to escort her girlfriend home. Terrence was disappointed, then angry, believing he didn’t have a chance to date Gina. He secretly ordered his minions to attack her and was surprised to learn that she survived. He grew cautious because she was the first person of all his victims to survive.
In response to the murders, the city declared a curfew. Giving up on Gina, he attempted to attack patrolling policemen. When Gina and Char deduced him to be the mastermind behind the murders, she broke into his mansion and confronted him. He explained how he learned magic and used it to get back at people who wronged him in some way. He ordered the demon to attack them, but instead he betrayed him and used an artifact to extract his blood, killing him in the same way he killed his victims.
Terrence is a somewhat handsome, yet moody individual. He is a bit shy in groups, but when speaking to people one-on-one he can be quite talkative. As he likes to try new restaurants, he has a good knowledge of the places he has visited.
When he feels angered or wronged, he feels compelled to exact revenge. This behavior has grown deadlier ever since he gained the ability to use magic.
Terrence has an basic understanding of magic. Because he can’t use magic well, he mainly uses artifacts and minions.
