Xiaomei Tang (湯小梅) is an esper working for the Department of Anomalies.
A Withering Flower
While pursuing Sumire Yanagi, Xiaomei was directed by her superior Varya Solovyova to use her ability, allowing them to learn about Sumire’s cyborgization and the properties of the MFO inside her.
When Sumire accompanied them to the headquarters of the Department of Anomalies, she demonstrated her abilities, showing her why they canceled their pursuit and how they came up with the specific counters to her abilities.
Beyond the Veil
Xiaomei accompanied Varya to Watanabe Station to investigate the unusual trajectory of a certain group of MFOs in a nearby asteroid field. She discovered microorganisms living on the asteroids, but when she used her power to learn about them, she became incapacitated as an unknown entity spoke in her mind about its plans to send MFOs to the planet and prevent her from revealing the truth.
Personality and traits
Xiaomei is a slacker at heart. If she can avoid doing something, she won’t do it. She would much rather spend her time and attention on cute and sweet things, such as candies, boba, fashion trends, and accessories.
However, if she’s forced to do something, she will act seriously to the extent that the job is completed so that she can resume being lazy.
Abilities and skills
Scoop: As an esper, Xiaomei has the ability to learn information about anyone or anything. This ability is used by the Department of Anomalies to identify the properties of MFOs. Though this ability is effective as close range, it can still be used at a distance with some difficulty.
As a side effect of using this ability, she transforms into a more voluptuous, taller woman with longer hair. Though she adores this form of hers, she doesn’t like how she outgrows her clothes when she transforms.
The use of Scoop brings her closer to the uncomfortable truths of the universe, risking her sanity. Xiaomei subconsciously protects herself by dissociating, splitting her identity into two: one grim and serious, burdened with forbidden knowledge so that the other may live a blissful and carefree life.
Possessions
- Metal choker: This choker has been placed on her by the Department of Anomalies to ensure compliance of esper employees. Should Xiaomei decide not to follow the orders of her superiors, it will inject dangerous chemicals to force her to obey.
