Nadeshiko is a fairy who lived in a cherry tree imported from Japan to New Salem for research. In addition to her, there are about a dozen other fairies living in the tree, all of whom are shy and sensitive to changes in their environment.
History
She had been living peacefully among the cherry blossoms growing on a mountain within a territory managed by Japan’s community of magicians. However, when the cherry blossom tree was sent to New Salem for research purposes, she was sent along with them, and the situation changed completely. She found herself thrown into an unfamiliar place alongside her companions.
Guiding the Cherry Blossom Fairy
In a panic, Nadeshiko left her sakura tree and ended up possessing Chloe Springsprout.
With Rani Asterline’s help, she managed to separate from Chloe after Mary Demore and Ainsley Wintertide lifted her possession.
The cherry tree that had once been her home had become uninhabitable due to a mutation caused by New Salem’s environmental mana, and she was worried about her companions still remaining there.
She tried to get along with Chloe, who would be both her partner and ally, but they were both too self-conscious, so things didn’t go well.

After that, Nadeshiko ended up working with them to solve the problem. They hypothesized that one of the issues—reversing the transformation—might not have been possible earlier because Nadeshiko was in a panic. So she actually transformed herself, and although it was a struggle, she managed to reverse it successfully.
Her fairy companions were able to resolve the immediate issues they faced after being allowed to stay at Alba’s restaurant.
However, her kin were homesick and had expressed a desire to return to Japan, so they made plans to travel to Japan with Chloe and Rani.
Personality and traits
Nadeshiko is shy and timid, and tends to hide behind Chloe.
She has no trouble socializing, but she is more sensitive to changes in her environment than most, and sudden changes can send her into a panic.
She is also shy around strangers, and she can’t keep a conversation going if the other person doesn’t respond, so if she hadn’t been in a dream with Chloe she couldn’t have grown closer to her. On the other hand, she does talk with her companions. The extent of her interactions depends on the level of trust and the impression she has of them.
Compared to Aislinn, she isn’t used to caring for by humans, and right now, she’s doing her best just to make sure she doesn’t have a negative influence on Chloe.
Her values aren’t all that different from those of typical fairies; she admires those who protect nature and harbors a fair amount of distaste for the undead. However, she wouldn’t go so far as to think they shouldn’t exist.
Magical abilities and skills
Nadeshiko’s magic is connected to cherry trees and flowers.
- Katana: A pink sword composed of mana that she can wield by possessing Chloe. She handles it skillfully.
- Presence Detection: She possesses an excellent sixth sense that allows her to sense when hostile opponents are approaching.
- Plant Communication: This ability is identical to Aislinn’s, but since she is shy, she isn’t very good at using it.
- Possession: By possessing Chloe’s body, she can enhance her abilities and cast spells that are more powerful than those she can cast in her fairy form.
