After Aislinn’s home was destroyed, she bound herself to Jane. As a result, Jane is developing traits of a hawthorn tree: she doesn’t mind cold weather, birds are attracted to her, etc.
And unfortunately for her father, her presence makes his allergies worse.
Did you know that hawthorn trees have an unpleasant smell? One of the chemicals in the hawthorn blossom, trimethylamine, is also one of the chemicals formed in decaying animal tissue! Its fishy odor is probably the reason behind why the hawthorn is related to fertility rites.
Jane is able to stop emitting the scent, but Aislinn forces her to release it around her dad as payback.
