ラナは穏やかな昼の海の精霊である。
数百年前にとある海竜に負けて、そばにあった髪飾りに逃げ込み、そのまま休眠することになる。なお同時に2つの人格に分かれることとなった。
存在を維持するためのマナが枯渇し、消滅の危機に瀕していたが、魔法使いの少女に髪飾りを拾われることで、その身を救われることとなり、その後契約を果たした。
その少女が精霊の魔法を使いたいと言ったので、その代わりに使命を与えることとした。
そして彼女は、少女が安全に使命を果たせるように度々助言をしているのである。
余談だが彼女は、小型犬ほどの大きさのイルカの分身体を出すことができ、魔法が使える場所ではそれでコミュニケーションをとっている。
これはニューセイラムという、ある世界の一部です。

Lana is a spirit of the calm daytime sea. Several hundred years ago, she was defeated by a certain sea dragon and escaped into a nearby hair ornament where she lay dormant. At that time, she split into two personalities. With the mana to maintain her existence depleted she was on the verge of disappearing, but was saved by a female magician who picked up the hair ornament, and subsequently made a contract with her.
The girl wanted to use the spirit’s magic, so she decided to give her a mission in exchange. She often gives advice to the woman so that she can safely fulfill her duty.
As an aside, she can produce a fission body of a dolphin the size of a small dog, and uses it to communicate where magic is available.
This is part of the New Salem
universe.
