Jane O’Young (Chinese name: 歐陽娟) and her family recently moved into a home that had a backyard with a beautiful hawthorn tree. Unfortunately, Jane’s father was allergic to it and wanted it gone.
But he didn’t know that the tree belonged to one of the aos sí: Aislinn (pronounced “ash-lin”). To her, the tree wasn’t just her home, but her source of mana–without it, she will disappear. You can imagine her surprise when she woke up one day to find the tree being cut down!
Fearing for her life, she looked around and saw Jane watching from a nearby window. Aislinn figured she could bind to Jane as a mana source, so she quickly flew inside Jane’s body to start the binding process. And when this happened, Jane’s body changed into that of Aislinn’s.
Jane isn’t happy that Aislinn is bonded with her, and Aislinn isn’t happy to rely on Jane to live. Over time, as they seek the solutions to their problems, they will learn to adapt to and learn from each other.
To be honest I was debating whether to share this now or later. I had a lot of doubts: How can I share my characters before I know what happens to them in the story? What if people pick the inconsistencies in my story apart? What if people think my story doesn’t make sense? I mean, I don’t consider myself a literary writer and I’ve never been one to make original characters.
Still, I was always fascinated by the ones made by others. The rich and colorful moments they lived motivated me to create a universe of my own. I might as well leap in and try it out.
As far as the story goes:
And here we are! The first original characters in this world are Jane and Aislinn!
This is part of the New Salem
universe.
