Although this is a world of science fiction, religion remains central to many lives in the kingdom.
Monotheism is practiced by a significant portion of citizens. Of these adherents, most follow a religion similar to Christianity and believe that if they do good deeds, they will deserve a place in heaven; but if they sin, they will instead be tormented in hell for eternity. Adherents are always eager to convert others into believers of their religion. Although proselytizing happens in areas with high foot traffic such as public squares and entrances to convention centers, many find this bothersome and pressure local governments to ban this behavior.
Aside from monotheism, polytheism is practiced, especially in Witsonde. Before the Great War, the people of Witsonde prayed to various deities, such as those that govern fortune, health, and love. Although they lost and were annexed into the kingdom, they never gave up their beliefs. To this day, many flock to local temples to pray, hoping to receive divine blessings.
There are a considerable number of people who do not believe in any god whatsoever. These atheists typically put their faith in science and the human race, believing that they collectively possess the courage and ingenuity to overcome any problems.
Finally there are cults. Always hungry for more members, they espouse unpopular beliefs, and because of this they are not taken seriously. The most questionable of these is The Children of the Island, a cult that reveres the mysterious island as a sacred place. Due to the cosmetic industry’s influence, travel to their island is prohibited, resulting in the cult’s stance against cosmetics.
